Marlins Ruthlessly Troll Yankees With Song Choice Three Outs Before Completing Sweep

The Miami Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the struggling New York Yankees on Sunday with a 7–3 win at home.

The in-stadium DJ seemed to have some fun at the Yankees' expense late in the game as Neil Diamond's legendary song "Sweet Caroline" was played before the top of ninth inning at LoanDepot Park.

The playing of that song has become a tradition at Fenway Park, the home of the Yankees' most heated rival. The Red Sox swept the Astros on Sunday and are now in second place in the AL East after passing the Yankees on Saturday.

Look at this scene in Miami:

That is too good.

MLB fans loved it.

The Yankees dropped to 60–52 with their third straight loss.

MLB Umpire Cards Near-Perfect Game in 15 Innings of Mariners-Tigers ALDS Game 5

For 15 edge-of-your-seat innings, the Mariners and Tigers played a dramatic, thrilling postseason contest in Game 5 of the American League Division Series that ultimately ended in Seattle joy and Detroit heartbreak. And for the impartial fan, this was baseball heaven. There was excellent pitching, clutch hitting, peak drama and even first-class umpiring.

Over the course of 15 innings, 472 total pitches and nearly five hours of game time, home-plate umpire Alan Porter was nearly perfect. Porter correctly called 219 of 228 balls and strikes, a highly-impressive accuracy rate of 96%, according to Umpire Scorecards.

And while Porter wasn't perfect—some may point to his called strike against Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford, or in the Tigers' case, the ruled hit-by-pitch of Mariners outfielder Victor Robles, a somewhat controversial call that went against Detroit's favor.

But overall, this was an outstanding performance by an MLB umpire on the game's biggest stage at a time when umpires are under the microscope seemingly more than ever.

A round of applause for Alan Porter please.

"Amazing" 4-2-3-1 tactician travelling to Ibrox to end Rangers manager search

Rangers have now turned their attention to an “amazing” manager after the deal with Kevin Muscat collapsed, with talks advancing so much the new candidate is already en route to Ibrox.

Rangers suffer Muscat blow

Until the weekend, Muscat had looked likely to take charge of the Gers, coming in as a popular appointment after spending time at the club during his playing career.

Unfortunately, the Australian has now decided against taking the job, with a breakdown in talks over the weekend, as reported by Sky Sports.

It means that Muscat joins fellow leading target Steven Gerrard in not taking the Rangers job, which must feel concerning to the supporters, in terms of managers not wanting to come in and turn things around, especially after Gerrard’s camp were alarmed by the inner workings at Ibrox.

The Gers’ season is already in danger of falling apart, following yet more dropped points in the 2-2 draw at home to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, and it remains to be seen who will be Martin’s successor.

Danny Rohl travelling to Glasgow to sign for Rangers

Give Me Sport revealed Rangers are in talks with Danny Rohl over the vacant manager’s job, after it was initially thought he too had removed himself from the running. Those talks have clearly advanced however, as popular podcast Heart & Hand shared further news on Monday lunchtime.

“Danny Rohl will arrive on Glasgow in the next couple of hours to finalise his deal,” they shared on social media.

“This will bring to a conclusion a two-week process that historians will use as a case study in how not to recruit a manager.”

The German should be seen as an exciting option for Rangers, with the 36-year-old a talented young manager who shone at Sheffield Wednesday in tough circumstances, being hailed by Owls legend Chris Waddle.

Granted, there is an element of risk in bringing in Rohl, who uses a 4-2-3-1 system, given his lack of experience and the fact that he is yet to manage a team of Rangers’ stature.

Rohl won't like him: Rangers must drop Ibrox star with "big potential"

It’s unlikely Smith will persist with this Rangers underperformer.

But if those high up at the club see him as the best alternative to Muscat and Gerrard, they need to be trusted, even if that may be tough for the supporters to do following the failed appointments of Philippe Clement and Martin.

Danny Rohl's six-word warning to Rangers players before Kilmarnock

Danny Rohl has warned his players they “gave me a lot of information” following Rangers’ damaging 3-0 Europa League defeat to Brann in the Europa League on Thursday.

The 36-year-old head coach was installed as Russell Martin’s successor on Monday but there was no dream debut in Norway. Emil Kornvig opened the scoring five minutes before the break, Jacob Sorensen added a second after 55 minutes and Noah Holm fired in a third after 79 minutes for a comfortable win for the home side.

Rangers writer and podcaster David Edgar called for two sackings immediately following the game as pressure continues to mount on Chief Executive Patrick Stewart and Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell.

Rangers are bottom of the 36-team table as they turn attention to the visit of Kilmarnock in the William Hill Premiership on Sunday.

Rohl warns players after defeat to Brann

Rohl appeared to fire a warning to the players who took part in Thursday’s humiliation, telling Rangers TV they “gave me a lot of information” and that they were not up to the required standard.

The new boss did however take responsibility for what is to come, with over two months before he gets the chance to change his squad in the January transfer window: “I have to develop and improve the players. I have to develop and improve the group. This is what I have to do. This is my job.

“We played a team who were organised, aggressive and did the basics right, and we didn’t.

“But my job is to lift them again, give them the solutions, and be ready on Sunday.”

Ally McCoist told talkSPORT he is struggling to commentate matches involving his old team.

Ally McCoist on punditry for TNT Sports.

“The three teams Rangers have played (in the Europa League) are bang average,” said the Ibrox legend on Friday morning.

“I’ll be brutally honest, last night I was as depressed as I’ve been throughout this whole debacle. I actually feel for the manager. I don’t know what he’s going to do. He might improve them in terms of a little bit of organisation.

“But I don’t think there’s anywhere near the level of improvement in that team that will be required to even get them up the league domestically. They’re just absolutely miles off it.”

The Gers will be seeking just their second win in the league this season when they host Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon. They could be 16 points off the pace at the start of play if Hearts beat Celtic in the earlier kick-off.

Better signing than Robertson: Celtic offered chance to land £80k-p/w star

Celtic are currently searching for their permanent successor to Brendan Rodgers, who resigned last month, but there have yet to be any reports that suggest that an appointment is close.

Martin O’Neill has been in interim charge at Parkhead, winning three of his four matches in the dugout, but it remains to be seen whether or not the 4-0 win over Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership will be his last outing.

Bodo/Glimt head coach Kjetil Knutsen, Cardiff’s Brian Barry-Murphy, and Columbus Crew’s Wilfried Nancy are among the managers who have been linked with the vacant job in Glasgow.

However, no deal has been agreed with any of those candidates at the time of writing, which is why it is unclear as to whether or not O’Neill will still be in the dugout after the international break.

Whilst there is plenty of speculation over who the next manager is going to be, and understandably so, there has also been speculation over what the club could do in the January transfer window.

One player who has recently been linked with a possible move to Parkhead is Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, but it is a move that may not make too much sense for the Hoops.

Why Celtic should avoid a deal for Andy Robertson

It was recently reported that the Scotland international is ‘open’ to the idea of putting pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement with Celtic in January, which would see him sign for the club on a free transfer next summer.

The left-footed star’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season, opening the door to a potential exit from Liverpool, and it appears as though a move to Parkhead could be on the cards.

At face value, signing a 31-year-old star who has won two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy, on top of delivering 68 assists in 314 games for the Reds, would be a phenomenal piece of business for the Hoops.

Robertson, who assisted 12 goals in the Premier League in the 2019/20 campaign (Transfermarkt), is an attack-minded left-back who would bring quality, experience, and creativity at left-back.

However, Celtic already signed Kieran Tierney, who spent six years at Arsenal, to provide those three things when they brought him back to the club earlier this year on a free transfer.

As you can see in the table above, the Scottish defender has been one of the best attack-minded full-backs in the Premiership so far this season, which shows that he has provided the expected creativity.

Tierney is three years younger than Robertson and signing another left-back who will want to play week-in-week-out and offer the same qualities may not be a logical move for the Hoops.

Meanwhile, though, the Scottish giants have been linked with another Premier League defender who would be a better signing than the Liverpool full-back.

Celtic offered chance to sign Premier League defender

According to 67HailHail, Celtic have been made aware of the potential availability of three Chelsea players ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

The report claims that Deivid Washington, Raheem Sterling, and Axel Disasi are all set to move on from Stamford Bridge for the second half of the season, as they do not feature in Enzo Maresca’s plans in London.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

67HailHail adds that there is nothing at this stage to suggest that the Hoops will definitely make a move for any of those three players, but the club have been offered the chance to swoop for the Chelsea outcasts.

Disasi is possibly the most intriguing name on the list because of the long-term injury that central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers recently sustained.

The £80k-per-week France international could come in as an even better signing than Robertson in January, if the Hoops decide to dip into the Premier League to make an addition to their defence.

Why Celtic should sign Axel Disasi

Carter-Vickers suffered an Achilles injury against Sturm Graz in the Europa League and is expected to be out of action for up to five months, which means that he may not return until March.

That has come as a big blow for the Hoops because he is the first-choice right-sided centre-back and it is has left Auston Trusty and Liam Scales, two left-footed players, as the first-choice pairing.

Whilst the Hoops have kept back-to-back clean sheets in the Premiership, Scales and Trusty struggled in the 3-1 loss to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, as the hosts created four ‘big chances’ and 2.73 xG.

Therefore, bringing in a right-footed centre-back with European experience in January could make a lot of sense for Celtic with Carter-Vickers’ injury situation, which is why Disasi could be an excellent signing.

Whilst the Hoops, for the aforementioned reasons, have little need to push the boat out for Robertson, who is reportedly on £160k-per-week, the Chelsea centre-back could be worth the wages to sign him on loan to fill a glaring hole.

As you can see in the table above, Disasi put in a few dominant performances in the Champions League for Aston Villa on loan in the second half of last season, showing that he can compete at the top level in Europe.

The 27-year-old star also made 13 appearances in the Premier League, per Sofascore, and won 62% of his aerial duels, whilst completing 90% of his attempted passes, featuring at both right-back and centre-back.

Disasi, who was described as a “complete” and “dominant” defender by talent scout Jacek Kulig, also put in a performance against Manchester City last year that was heralded as the best Jamie Carragher had seen that campaign, which is further evidence of his potential to deliver high-quality performances at the top level.

The right-footed star, therefore, could be an excellent signing to fill the hole created by the injury to Carter-Vickers because the Chelsea outcast is a Premier League and Champions League-proven defender, who should be in the prime years of his career at the age of 27.

Dream for Maeda: 4-3-3 boss now a frontrunner to replace Rodgers at Celtic

As Celtic search for a new manager, the board’s top target is reportedly now the “frontrunner” for job and would be the dream hire for Daizen Maeda.

By

For whatever reason, possibly due to the volume of players signed by the Blues, Disasi has become available to the Hoops in January and they should take advantage of that, because he would be an even better signing than Robertson, based on the team’s current needs.

Sunderland now lead Newcastle in race to sign "great" star who Le Bris knows

Sunderland are now reportedly in pole position to sign a midfield star who Regis Le Bris already knows well ahead of rivals Newcastle United.

Le Bris eyes Sunderland reaction vs Bournemouth

It’s not often that Sunderland have been handed setbacks this season, but defeat against Fulham last time out was exactly that for Le Bris’ side.

Whilst it was just their third loss of the season and there’s no reason to think that last week’s result could derail their strong start, the Black Cats will be eyeing a reaction against Bournemouth.

Three points could take the Black Cats to as high as third if other results also go their way and after 13 games that would simply be remarkable. In many ways, those at the Stadium of Light are replicating the impressive work that Bournemouth have gradually enjoyed since their own promotion.

Le Bris admitted his admiration for the Cherries, saying: “Bournemouth are a good model for us. They way they have built in the last four seasons in the league is really interesting for us.”

An Isidor repeat: Sunderland line up move to sign "special" £4.7m star

Sunderland could win their next Wilson Isidor by going after this star in January.

ByKelan Sarson Nov 24, 2025

It must be said, however, that Sunderland’s model has so featured more investment and the type of investment that could see them land Matteo Guendouzi ahead of Newcastle in January.

Sunderland leading Newcastle in Guendouzi race

According to TeamTalk, Sunderland are now ahead of Newcastle in the race to sign Guendouzi in 2026 in a deal that could be worth up to £26m. Le Bris knows the Lazio midfielder well from their time together at Lorient and admitted that he’s still in contact with his former midfielder a few weeks ago.

It would be a statement move if the Black Cats landed a transfer target ahead of their rivals, who are backed by the extensive riches of PIF. But that’s the position they find themselves in after such an impressive start to the Premier League campaign.

It’s easy to see why Sunderland are chasing a reunion between Le Bris and Guendouzi, given how the Frenchman has compared to star man Granit Xhaka so far this season. The transfer report even states that the Black Cats view Guendouzi ‘as the perfect midfield partner for Xhaka, adding experience and bite to their engine room’.

Previously dubbed a “great professional” by former Hertha Berlin sporting director Arne Friedrich, Guendouzi also has unfinished business in the Premier League after leaving Arsenal under a dark cloud in 2021 and could earn redemption at Sunderland.

Dave Roberts Empathizes With Phillies' Orion Kerkering After Error in Crushing Loss

Phillies reliever Orion Kerkering had plenty of support from his teammates and manager after his brutal error led to a crushing defeat at the hands of the Dodgers. Catcher J.T. Realmuto was the first to get to Kerkering as he stood on the field with his head down and hands on his knees in front of the celebrating Dodgers. Realmuto was quickly joined by right fielder Nick Castellanos, and then, as Kerkering headed for the dugout, he was met by Phillies manager Rob Thomson, who consoled the young reliever after the crushing moment.

But Kerkering also received support from what may have seemed like an unlikely source: the winning manager. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke to reporters on Thursday and empathized with Kerkering, who had clearly been emotional before he took questions from the media.

"It's brutal," Roberts said after the game. "Obviously they played great defense tonight. It's one of those things that—It's a PFP, a pitcher's fielding practice and he's done it a thousand times. Just right there I'm sure he was so focused on just getting the hitter and just sort of forgot the outs and the situation. Kerkering is a stud and you definitely feel for a player.

"I'm obviously happy that we won but it's just, yeah—He's had a heck of a year and he's a heck of a pitcher."

Sports can be cruel and unforgiving at times, and while it shouldn't be the case, it's sometimes forgotten that these are human beings, who can be prone to mistakes, playing a game.

Kudos to Roberts for not forgetting the human element.

Red Sox Player Applauded for Act Towards Ryan McMahon After Tumbling Catch

Aside from Cam Schlittler's dominant outing against the Red Sox in the Yankees' Game 3 triumph in the wild-card series, one of the biggest storylines coming out of the game was a terrific, on-the-run catch of a foul ball by New York third baseman Ryan McMahon.

But during that game-changing play, something else notable—which didn't have an effect on the game but was a cool sportsmanship moment nonetheless—happened.

As McMahon went tumbling head-over-heels into the visitor's dugout, Red Sox relief pitcher Greg Weissert held onto the Yankees third baseman's legs and helped to ease his fall.

Check out Weissert's cool gesture at the six-second mark of the highlight video.

Weissert, a native New Yorker, Fordham graduate and former Yankee who spent two seasons with the Bronx Bombers, may have helped prevent McMahon from suffering an injury—or at the very least, waking up black and blue on Friday morning.

Really cool sportsmanship from Weissert.

At Nepal's first home ODI, cricket has a hero's homecoming

For fans who’ve climbed every mountain and crossed every sea to watch their team play, this was a moment more than ten years in the making

Peter Della Penna in Kathmandu06-Feb-2020″What brings you to Nepal?” asks the restaurant waiter.”Cricket,” is the response. But in the dinner-time rush, it gets mistaken for something else.”Trekking,” the waiter responds. “Which mountain are you trekking?”In some ways the two pursuits could be said to be the same. This is a cricket team that embarked on an eight-year climb from Division Five in the World Cricket League to ODI status in 2018. As much as the players are in the limelight, the fans’ unparalleled passion every step along that journey is just as noteworthy. So Wednesday was just as much a celebration for the supporters as it was for the players themselves.Though Nepal made their ODI debut in Amstelveen 18 months ago, this was the first time they were playing ODI cricket on home soil. Back then their fans travelled to the Netherlands to witness a dramatic series draw. They did so again six months later in Dubai for Nepal’s first ODI series win. February 5, 2020 was the first chance, though, to remind the rest of the world that the support Nepal receives on the road is but a smidgeon of the passion at home. It’s not too hard to find a Nepal cricket jersey hanging outside the shops in Kathmandu’s Thamel district•Peter Della PennaThat passion begins with a trek to the ground – literally.Located on the outskirts south-west of downtown Kathmandu in the Kirtipur section of the city, Tribhuvan University Stadium is a 750-metre climb uphill from the entrance gate of the university off Dakshinkali Road. A popular mode of transportation is the motorbike. Even the country’s most revered player, ex-captain Paras Khadka, can be seen riding one to and from team training sessions. On game day, they line a makeshift parking lot adjacent to the stadium gates. But most fans make the journey on foot, trekking up the western pathway, bundled up in thick coats on 5° Celsius mornings. Some of them wear the crimson-and-blue Nepal team jerseys underneath. These are increasingly available in the popular Thamel neighbourhood in the city centre. Others bring the distinct red double-pennant national flag featuring the moon and sun, queueing at ticket booths to buy a 200-rupee general admission pass. The facility itself is bare bones. The fans carve out their own places to sit or stand on what is essentially a grass embankment with a few terraced stone walls creating the impression of tiered sections. There are no designated, reserved chair-back seats. There are no luxurious concourses with plasma-screen TVs to distract and entice visits to merchandise and food vendors. The only DJ music that gets played is between innings, and the public address announcer does not need to exhort those in attendance to “Make some noooooiiiiiiise!!!!”Karan KC celebrates after taking a wicket•Peter Della PennaThe fan experience at TU Stadium is visceral, raw, pure. It is spontaneous. It is joyous. It is the envy of so many other countries in the Associate sphere, and these days, perhaps of a few in the Full-Member world as well.At 9:25am, when the players and umpires take the field, a roar erupts from the early arrivals. By the start of play, there are no more than 2000 people. But the numbers feel exponentially greater judging by the euphoric screams when medium-pacer Karan KC bowls Oman’s Jatinder Singh to end the first over of play. Before long, chants of “Ne-PAL! Ne-PAL!” are ringing out.Ten years ago, the local fan’s passion was at times blind and uncontrolled. A legendary match against USA in World Cricket League Division Five was infamously marred by rioting. The crowd’s simmering rage boiled over after a six hit by USA vice-captain Sushil Nadkarni brought up his half-century. The fans marked the milestone by heaving rocks and other debris over the fence and onto the field of play, causing a lengthy delay.Oman’s Mohammad Nadeem acknowledges applause from the Tribhuvan University Stadium crowd after reaching his fifty•Peter Della PennaFast forward to 2020. Mohammad Nadeem is out in the middle for Oman. From 57 for 5, he has revived the visitors’ innings with a gritty and mature knock. The crowd enthusiastically rise to their feet to offer riotous applause when Nadeem reaches his half-century in the 48th over, by which stage Oman are 168 for 8. It is a scene perhaps inconceivable a decade ago for those who played against USA, including the current Nepal captain Gyanendra Malla.”We are blessed with lovely fans, not only here but lots are following online as well,” Malla said after yesterday’s game. “It’s good to see them applauding other opponents’ efforts. As the game grows up here in Nepal, slowly they are starting to catch up to the spirit of the game and the laws of the game, and they understand it better.”But there’s still no doubt as to where their loyalty lies. In the field, the biggest roar was reserved for Khadka when he came on to bowl spin for the first time, in the 16th over. During the chase, the yelps turned fevered each time Sharad Vesawkar and Sandeep Lamichhane found the boundary to take Nepal to 162 for 7 after 43 overs, within striking distance of the target of 198. Ultimately, the chase unravelled in the next two overs as both were dismissed in the space of seven balls.Nepal captain Gyanendra Malla interacts with a sizable local press contingent after the match•Peter Della PennaA great irony on this day was that all the noise and energy, loud as it may be compared to that in home venues for Oman or the USA who are lucky to get triple-digit fan attendance for their home ODIs, felt underwhelming by Nepal standards in some ways. Due to ICC protocols in place for venue safety and security, ticket sales were capped at 10,000. In the past, twice that many people have been packed into TU Stadium. Ticket capacity has been set at 12,000 for Saturday’s match against USA.”It was less crowd,” said Utsav Sigdel, a Kathmandu native now living in the USA who flew from Maryland with his wife Deshna to be at this week’s tri-series. “Maybe we will see more crowd on Saturday. But every time, win or lose, it doesn’t affect our enjoyment. We always love the cricket. We always love Nepal.”Unconditional love. It’s the intangible trait that has made the Nepal players and their adoring fans capable of scaling previously insurmountable peaks and makes them such a treasure in the Associate community.
