£100,000-per-week Tottenham player reaches agreement to leave for Europe

A Tottenham player has already reached an agreement with one European club over joining them this summer, with a Spurs summit and club-to-club talks now set to follow.

Spurs expected to undergo summer overhaul in busy transfer window

Ange Postecoglou has publicly stated that his team need to implement drastic change in the months which lie ahead, with reliable journalists like Fabrizio Romano also expecting Spurs to have a busy transfer window.

Tottenham finished the Premier League season in fifth, qualifying for the Europa League in their first season minus club-record goalscorer and former superstar Harry Kane, with Postecoglou's high-pressing system winning plenty of admirers along the way.

To back Postecoglou and keep evolving the squad, in an effort to turn Spurs into genuine Premier League contenders over the next few seasons, it is believed chairman Daniel Levy is open to offers for up to a dozen members of the squad (Paul O'Keefe).

These player sales will rid Postecoglou of deadwood and potentially bolster his transfer kitty, as it is believed that Spurs want to seriously invest in fresh faces for multiple positions this summer.

"We've got a lot of work to do still on the squad and I don't think we're anywhere near where we want to be," said Postecoglou on bringing in new players.

"It probably will take a little bit more than three windows to get there, for sure. I certainly don't think we're one or two players away from getting to where I want us to be, nowhere near it. Some of that will be natural evolution. Some of it hopefully means we continue to get the improvement we've had this year from some of our players. If that happens over the next 12 months, then we'll be in a great position.

"But you've got to remember, a lot of our group are in their first year of the Premier League. A good chunk of them have been ever-presents, we need them to keep improving at the rate they are. We've still got a lot of work to do with the squad. I think we're a long way away from having one or two players away from getting where we want to be."

One player who may fetch a fairly decent sum, and doesn't appear to be in Postecoglou's plans moving forward, is midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Hojbjerg agrees to join Fenerbahce from Tottenham

The Dane played a lot of top-flight games last season, but the overwhelming majority of his appearances came from the bench, as he started just eight league matches.

Hojbjerg has been heavily linked with a Spurs exit since last September, and now Turkish news outlet Milligazete (via Sport Witness) claim Hojbjerg has reached an outline agreement to join Fenerbache after talks with their sporting director.

The £100,000-per-week midfielder, branded "sensational" in the media for some of his performances, could reunite with Jose Mourinho – and it is claimed that club-to-club talks over the transfer will happen soon.

Sir Alastair Cook stars but Essex's 100% record threatened by weather

Opener digs in for unbeaten 75 as Paul Walter impresses after promotion

ECB Reporters Network23-Aug-2020

Alastair Cook flays through the covers•Getty Images

Sir Alastair Cook smoothly reached his 182nd first-class half-century around the rain as Essex totted up the runs against Hampshire at Arundel.Former England captain Cook appeared in little danger with his second fifty of the Bob Willis Trophy and ended the day on 75.Only 47 overs were bowled on Sunday, after no play on the first day, as rain continued to frustrate the top two teams in the South Division. After the entirety of the opening day was kiboshed by rain and a damp patch on the bowlers’ run-up at the Castle End of the ground, the coin was eventually tossed 24 hours late. Sam Northeast won it and elected to bowl first, and hope for a similar new ball burst to that which downed Surrey last week. But that didn’t arrive as Paul Walter and Cook looked at ease against accurate but lifeless bowling – with the conditions not helping movement either in the air or off the pitch.Walter rose to his audition as a first-team opener after being given to step in for the rested Nick Browne. Walter, who has previously opened successfully in the second XI, was selected on the back of scores of 33, 46, 33 and a watch winning 27 not out in the middle-order thus far in the Bob Willis Trophy. The promotion didn’t faze him, as he struck Brad Wheal through the covers in the third over. Seven more offside boundaries followed, with only three of his 43 runs coming on the leg side during an 83-run stand for the first wicket. An early lunch was brought about by a heavy shower, with the afternoon session also washed out. But 5pm saw the resumption of play, with 51 overs lost, and almost immediately lost Walter. The left-handed batsman edged to a stooping Tom Alsop at first slip, with the third ball of the restart, to offer Ian Holland a breakthrough.Around Walter, Cook had played the sort of innings which England supporters got used to watching in his 161 Test matches. Where the innings lacked in glamour, it made up for in substance, as he struck six boundaries on his way to a 101-ball half-century.Cook’s most aggressive period came when he twice pulled James Fuller to the boundary with perfect execution. Mason Crane picked up his 12th wicket of the season when Tom Westley, following a 61-run stand with Cook, prodded behind to Lewis McManus with three overs left of the day, before nightwatchman Jamie Porter guided Cook through to close without any further damage.

Edu’s close advisor has now told Arsenal to move for £40 million Brazilian

A close advisor of Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar has now told the Gunners to make a move for one £40 million Brazil international this summer.

Arsenal targeting four major signings with Edu ready to spend

It is believed by reliable media sources that Arsenal wish to back manager Mikel Arteta with four key signings across a variety of positions.

Arsenal now appear favourites to sign £60 million striker after agent talks

He’s been praised for having “everything”.

ByEmilio Galantini May 14, 2024

Indeed, Standard Sport reporter Simon Collings claimed last week that Arsenal are targeting a new goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and striker – with other reports claiming Edu could oversee a record-breaking expenditure on new signings this summer as well.

Defensively, it is thought that the north Londoners have had their eyes on both new full-backs and central defensive options. Arsenal are interested in Sporting Lisbon starlet Ousmane Diomande as an option for the heart of Arteta's backline, and the same can be said for Crystal Palace stalwart Marc Guehi.

ousmane-diomande-transfer-news-newcastle-premier-league

At full-back, the north Londoners have been regularly linked with a potential swoop for Turkish defender Ferdi Kadioglu, and some there have even been some suggestions that the £30 million man has already agreed to join them (Yagiz Sabuncuoglu).

It remains to be seen if that audacious claim will come to fruition, but reports like this strongly hint that a new full-back could be on the cards for Arsenal this summer. Arteta is said to want additional cover at right-back, with Jurrien Timber's ACL injury earlier this season perhaps highlighting exactly why that position needs to be reinforced.

Ben White has starred in the role this season, being deployed as a right-back constantly ever since the rise of William Saliba at the start of 2022/2023, but the Englishman has admitted to his limitations.

"Some of the videos I have seen, maybe others don't see it, but if I lost the runner or if I don't do that, they will probably score. It comes back to doing anything to win," said White on his right-back role at Arsenal.

"I know I'm not going to stop everyone and I know I'm not the best one-v-one defender, but I know I can do things to help the team in game situations against their winger.

"Every game, normally the winger is the best player so it's always a challenge and I have to do my homework and try and stop him. There's all sorts [happening at set-pieces], standing on your feet, elbows. It's OK. I just have to stand in the way and see what happens."

Arsenal urged to make Yan Couto move by Edu advisor

Arteta cannot be so reliant on White, despite his phenomenal form, and it is believed that they could look to Brazil international defender Yan Couto.

The £40 million ace, who has enjoyed a fine season on loan at Girona from Man City, is now being looked at. As relayed by Football Transfers, Arteta's side were rumoured to be closing in on a deal for Couto in 2020, but the 21-year-old opted for a move to Eastlands instead.

FT also state their own information that chief scout Paulo Xavier has told Arsenal to make a move for Couto this summer. Indeed, the ex-Real Madrid employee, who is a close advisor of Edu, is said to have pushed the South American forward behind-the-scenes.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal formalise that interest after being advised to, but Couto's age and price tag make him a pretty tempting target.

Play abandoned without a ball bowled on weathered third day

Rain and bad light again scupper any chance of action at the Ageas Bowl

The Report by Valkerie Baynes15-Aug-2020Pakistan’s hopes of pushing for a series-levelling victory against England in the second Test, however faint or strong, were dented by a third-day washout at the Ageas Bowl.As every hour passed with no activity whatsoever on the pitch, the chances of either side securing a result within the final two days diminished. Attempts were made to mop up late in the afternoon, followed by a number of ground inspections but, by the time play was abandoned without a ball being bowled at 5.15pm local time, rain had begun to fall again. The lightest of drizzle greeted what would have been the start of play in the morning and it remained so all day. But it led to a soggy outfield that couldn’t be dried in the absence of any wind or sun. When a time for the final inspection of the day was set, the light meter readings were poor, lower than the previous day when play also ended early, sparking debate over what measures could be taken to allow play in less-than-ideal visibility. Ultimately though, the required levels had been set for a match which has been hampered by bad weather throughout. That meant Mohammad Rizwan, the No. 7 who batted valiantly on the second day, remained unbeaten on 60, with tailender Naseem Shah not out 1 and England seeking one final wicket to wrap up Pakistan’s first innings.

Arsenal player ratings vs Man City: Leandro Trossard's red card proves costly as Gabriel Magalhaes & Co.'s rearguard is broken in dramatic draw

A John Stones goal eight minutes into stoppage-time denied the 10 men a famous victory at the Etihad Stadium

John Stones scored eight minutes into injury-time to earn Manchester City a 2-2 draw and break the hearts of Arsenal, who had played the entire second half with 10 men after Leandro Trossard was sent off seconds before the interval.

Manchester City got off to a dream start when Erling Haaland raced clear to score inside 10 minutes, but Riccardo Calafiori marked his first Arsenal start with a sensational curling equaliser from distance.

The visitors then started to grow in confidence and they got themselves a lead just before the break when Gabriel Magalhaes rose highest to head home Bukayo Saka's corner. But the first half drama wasn't over as Leandro Trossard, who had been booked earlier, was shown a second yellow card for kicking the ball away after giving away a free-kick.

Arsenal's 10 men defended valiantly after the interval and looked to have secured a famous win which would have moved them top of the Premier League, but in the eighth minute of stoppage time a scramble in the box fell to Stones who forced the ball over the line to earn the champions a point.

GOAL rates Arsenal's players from the Etihad Stadium…

David Raya (9/10):

Made some really sharp stops as the pressure increased in the second half. His handling was excellent and helped ease the pressure.

Jurrien Timber (8/10):

Seemed to enjoy playing on his natural side. Dealt well with the threat of the dangerous Doku. Battled so well and epitomised the Arsenal spirit.

William Saliba (8/10):

Showed some wonderful composure at times to bring the ball out of defence. Enjoyed his battle with Haaland. Never gave City anything in the second half.

Gabriel Magalhaes (8/10):

Another game, another thumping header from a corner. He will be disappointed with Haaland's early goal, was caught too far away from Saliba. Produced a monstrous performance after the interval.

Riccardo Calafiori (8/10):

Got caught out by the clever Savinho for Haaland's early goal and struggled against the winger at times in the first half, but got to grips with him as the game wore on. Scored a stunning equaliser though to mark his first Arsenal start. Limped off after the break.

Thomas Partey (7/10):

Didn't have to do as much running in the second half as Arsenal sat so deep. Protected the defence well.

Declan Rice (7/10):

Just sat on the edge of the box in the second half and added an extra layer of defence.

Kai Havertz (8/10):

Tireless performance as always. Worked so hard for the team after the sending off. Ran himself into the ground.

Bukayo Saka (6/10):

Brilliant set piece delivery again for Gabriel's goal. Brought off at half-time following the red card.

Leandro Trossard (3/10):

Got himself sent off in such a stupid way. Yes, Arsenal can complain about Doku escaping a yellow for a similar incident, but Trossard should have been smarter.

Gabriel Martinelli (8/10):

Excellent performance, especially in the first half before the dismissal. Got the assist for Calafiori and answered some of his critics.

Ben White (7/10):

On at half-time so Arsenal could go three at the back after the red card. Fine display.

Jakub Kiwior (N/A):

Replaced Calafiori 15 minutes from time.

Myles Lewis-Skelly (N/A):

On for the last few minutes.

Mikel Arteta (8/10):

He will be so proud of his team after the week they have had. Switched to a back three after the red card and it looked like his players had got themselves a huge win until the last few moments.

Uh oh: New transfer update on big club moving to sign Leeds’ Archie Gray

A major European club are seemingly already plotting their move to sign Leeds United star Archie Gray this summer, according to a new transfer update.

Leeds need to sell after Championship playoff final defeat

The Whites suffered Championship playoff final heartbreak on the weekend, losing 1-0 to Southampton at Wembley. As a result, Leeds are now likely required to sell some of their star players to comply with Profitability and Sustainability rules.

Leeds could be forced to sell "electric" star alongside Summerville

Leeds United might have to sell a whole host of players now after failing to clinch promotion.

ByKelan Sarson May 28, 2024

Speaking to Sky Sports recently, Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe said there are "going" to be some departures.

“We are well capitalised from an investment standpoint. We have the funds that we need to do what we need to do. The reality of being in the Championship is that Profitability and Sustainability (P&S) plays a role. We also inherited a challenging situation, so naturally there are going to be some trade-offs. But also, we have a really good team, and it is not just about outs, but ins. We're looking at scouting possibilities and players that we can bring in. We will have to make some trade-offs because of P&S but we have the investment commitment to do what we need to do.”

Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto have already been linked with Elland Road exits, but when it specifically came to Gray’s future, Marathe added:

“It's a little too early to answer specific questions. I can't talk on specific players right now. If I can paint the big picture for you, there are certain things we need to do and we will make sure we are fully compliant with P&S as we always have been, and there are certain trade-offs that we have to make. We will get to the drawing board and figure out which moves we have to make to make sure we are compliant. It is too early to say, obviously Archie is a tremendous player, as all the players who have put so much effort in for us, but every season brings change. I can't yet comment on it, but we'll see what happens.”

However, it looks as if one European giant is already planning their move for the 18-year-old.

Bayern Munich readying Archie Gray move

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Bayern Munich are “ready” to test Leeds’ resolve over Gray this summer, with Premier League giants Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd also keen should the teenager be available for transfer.

Within his report for HITC, Bailey adds that the Bundesliga giants are ready to try their luck when it comes to moving for Gray under incoming manager Vincent Kompany.

Gray enjoyed a phenomenal breakthrough campaign with his boyhood club, winning the EFL Young Player of the Year award and featuring regularly under Daniel Farke.

He eventually went on to make the right-back spot his own after beginning the season in his more natural midfield role, appearing 52 times in all competitions. Leeds will be hoping that it is not 52 and out, but by the looks of things, they could soon receive contact from Bayern and potentially other sides.

Is Dele Alli injured again after 19 months out? Ex-Tottenham star suffers ‘slip back’ in bid to earn new contract at Everton

The 28-year-old midfielder saw his contract with the Toffees expire at the end of the 2023-24 campaign. He has been a free agent since then, but has continued to work with the Premier League outfit after seeing them aid his recovery from an operation at the start of the calendar year.

Everton are open to agreeing fresh terms with Dele if he proves himself deserving of them, with a compromise having been reached with Tottenham that means previously agreed transfer fees will not need to change hands – as everybody tries to get the ex-England international’s career back on track.

WHAT DYCHE SAID

Dele has, however, suffered more fitness woe while being put through his paces at the Toffees’ training ground. Club boss Sean Dyche has said: “He’s just making sure he’s right. He’s had a little bit of a slip back with his fitness so he is just in that total recovery period. He’s been out that long it’s just about making sure everything is right.”

Quizzed on how Dele is dealing with the fresh setback, Dyche added: “It’s not easy but unfortunately it is part of being a professional footballer. Not for all, of course. I had a year out with my back, played one game and then did my back again the next week. You work for six or seven months and then you’re out for another seven months, it’s hard. Your body is the tool you need and if it breaks down it is really difficult but you find your way through it.

“Players are fortunate now. With me, my career was on the line. Now most of these guys, not all, make enough money to look after themselves for the future. Not that it’s about that, it doesn’t make it feel any better when you’re injured, but it’s worse when you’re injured for that long and you don’t know what is coming next and you are on the breadline. That’s a whole different ball game. But he has had a tough run of it, there is no doubt about that, and on the back of him feeling better about himself. To have this period out has been very challenging for him but whenever I see him he seems to be in good spirits. He’s well aware of the situation.”

Dan Neil isn’t the only ‘outstanding’ Sunderland star who could leave

There is still a dark cloud hanging over proceedings at the Stadium of the Light at the moment, as Sunderland find themselves no nearer to appointing a new manager, despite the regular Championship season finishing more than a month ago.

That might well be impacting the Black Cats camp, who could view the precarious situation in the dug-out as a sign that next campaign could end up being a struggle, instead of a major improvement on a dire 16th spot being achieved.

Dan Neil and Abdoullah Ba of Sunderland.

This could result in various first-team personnel packing their bags and moving on, with Jack Clarke a constant name linked with a move away from Wearside, on top of a new development involving homegrown product Dan Neil, which will be worrying news to the ears of Sunderland supporters.

The latest on Dan Neil's contract situation

It was revealed by talkSPORT's Alex Crook recently that this indecision regarding who will be Mike Dodds' successor has resulted in Neil getting itchy feet about his future at the club, resulting in the 22-year-old turning down a new bumper contract.

Neil is still contracted to his boyhood employers until 2026 but with interest in the past coming from Leicester City, the Foxes could fancy testing the waters soon to see if the disgruntled Black Cats number 24 would be tempted by a move.

Fresh off another excellent season in Sunderland red and white where he amassed nine goal contributions, after initially making the break-through into the men's team way back in 2021, Neil might see last campaign's poor overall finish – despite his best efforts – as a natural conclusion to his time at the Black Cats.

There will be fears that a potential exit for Neil could act as a ripple effect amongst an unsettled camp, triggering the likes of Trai Hume to test his luck elsewhere and see if a suitor would gamble on his services, with Leeds United once an interested party.

Trai Hume

This would be yet another disastrous development at the Stadium of Light to pile on the misery, with Hume arguably even more important than Neil at this moment in time.

Trai Hume's season in numbers

The Northern Irish defender has been a constant at the back for Sunderland, when the left-back spot has seen many different occupants owing to recurring bad luck via injuries, with Hume accumulating 47 appearances in total across all competitions last season.

Having to fill in at left-back 11 times himself, despite being more of a natural down the right-hand flank, losing Hume this summer would leave many a gaping hole in defence for the stuttering Wearside outfit.

He justified such a concrete spot in the Sunderland XI too, averaging 78.6 touches per game as a livewire playing out from the back from his 46 second-tier contests, alongside constantly providing energy to retrieve the ball and kickstart an attack, with 5.3 ball recoveries also averaged.

Described as being "outstanding" by football journalist Josh Bunting mid-way through the campaign, the Black Cats will not want to lose their no-nonsense number 32 anytime soon, with the 22-year-old stating that he is "happy" at Sunderland for the time being recently, but the ultimate dream is playing at the level above.
