Contact made: West Brom make move to sign "superb" Conor Bradley in January

West Brom are in the race to sign a "superb" international player on loan in the January transfer window, according to a fresh update.

West Brom transfer news

The Baggies continue to look like strong promotion contenders in the Championship this season, with Carlos Corberan guiding his side into the playoff positions currently.

While an automatic spot is looking difficult, given the relentless nature of Leicester City and Ipswich Town, West Brom look like one of the best of the rest. For them to continue this consistency, new signings in January could be needed, however, in terms of having as many options as possible, and keeping players fresh come the business end of the campaign.

Peterborough United ace Kwame Poku has emerged as a rumoured transfer target for the Baggies, with six goals and seven assists coming his way this season, and Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles has also been seen as a potential addition at the Hawthorns.

Now, a fresh claim suggests that West Brom could be looking to the Premier League for January reinforcements, with a temporary move for one player in the offing.

West Brom want Conor Bradley

According to TEAMtalk, West Brom have made contact with Liverpool youngster Conor Bradley over a loan move in January, but face stiff competition for his signature.

Liverpool defender Conor Bradley.

"TEAMtalk has been informed Liverpool are ready to loan out defensive prospect Conor Bradley in January and are fielding enquiries from a host of clubs.

"TEAMtalk has been told that up to a dozen clubs have made contact with the Reds as Bradley would be a player in real demand if they allowed him to leave. Among those interested are Burnley, Leeds, Middlesbrough and West Brom."

Bradley could be a really astute signing by West Brom, with the 20-year-old even in action for Liverpool on Thursday night, playing all 90 minutes of his side's 2-1 defeat to Union SG in the Europa League.

The right-back's playing time for the Reds is clearly going to be limited, however, considering Trent Alexander-Arnold is among Europe's leading players in his position, and Joe Gomez also represents a solid option, so a loan move could make perfect sense for everyone.

The 13-time capped Northern Ireland international has been hailed by veteran international colleague Jonny Evans in the recent past, with the Manchester United defender saying of him:

"I thought Conor Bradley was superb the other night [against Kosovo], and Shea Charles came in during the summer and that is what we want to see – young lads making an impression and hopefully bring the country forward."

Bradley could come straight in and provide competition for Darnell Furlong at right-back, easing his workload and giving Corberan an extra option in that position, and he is someone who will have learned from playing alongside some world-class footballers, from Mohamed Salah to Virgil van Dijk.

John Percy drops massive West Brom takeover update

There has been a significant development at the Hawthorns.

ByHenry Jackson Dec 13, 2023

There is clearly a lot of interest in the Liverpool man – a switch to Burnley would allow him to remain in the Premier League – but the lure of the Baggies could still be great, as they chase promotion back to the top flight, making this one to watch.

Duanne Olivier, Kagiso Rabada end Pakistan resistance for 3-0 sweep

South Africa demonstrated the ruthless instinct that has brought them seven straight series win at home, rounding up the seven Pakistan wickets they needed before lunch on day four at the Wanderers. Duanne Olivier made the early inroads, taking his wicket tally for the series to 24, before Kagiso Rabada scythed through the tail to help confirm a 3-0 whitewash.Pakistan did manage to breach the 200-mark for the only the second time in six innings, but that was small consolation as they fell to another heavy defeat. Asad Shafiq top-scored with 65 from 71 and there was some devil-may-care hitting lower down, though little to suggest the tourists ever harboured serious hopes of chasing 381 for a consolation victory. While the efforts of the top order on the third evening declared that Pakistan were not willing to run up the white flag in their last act of the series, it did not take long for them to buckle once play had resumed. For the second time in the match, Olivier found himself on a hat-trick and when Shafiq’s punchy innings was ended by Vernon Philander a few overs later, the bulk of South Africa’s hard work had been done.Babar Azam is one player who has left a mark on South Africa – just ask Dale Steyn – but he could do little about the Olivier throat ball he received in the third over of the morning, a pawing, snorting delivery worthy of the Bullring that flicked the bottom glove on its way through. Sarfraz Ahmed was then bluffed out first ball, hanging back for the short one only for Olivier to hit the top of off stump as the bat came belatedly into line. There was a second fifty of the series for Shafiq – although 185 runs at 31.00 was an underwhelming return for one of Pakistan’s senior batsmen – and a few more retaliatory boundaries before he walked down at Philander and diverted tamely to second slip. With Pakistan now 179 for 6 little more than half an hour into the morning session, and the target a hazy dot on the Highveld horizon, the rest was mostly formality. Shadab Khan had negotiated Olivier’s hat-trick delivery by sending a compact drive back down the ground for four, and he added 25 in partnership with Faheem Ashraf, before the latter’s fun was ended by an excellent diving catch at gully from Aiden Markram. The same combination of Markram and Rabada removed Mohammad Amir two overs later, bat dangled apologetically in the channel, and although Hasan Ali made merry while hitting two fours and a six in 22 of 14, he soon sent up a steepling caught-and-bowled chance for Rabada to swallow.Shadab demonstrated a correct technique and some enterprising strokes, hitting seven fours to move within sight of a fourth Test fifty. However, having put on 31 for the last wicket with Mohammad Abbas, forcing the lunch interval to be pushed back, an impetuous call by the No. 11 ended Pakistan’s resistance via a run-out.

Martin Crowe, Jonah Lomu get cricket trophy named after them

The Lomu-Crowe Trophy will bring together cricket and rugby players for the inaugural Black Clash Twenty20 match at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval on January 25

ESPNcricinfo staff16-Jan-2019Martin Crowe and Jonah Lomu, the late New Zealand rugby player, have been commemorated with a cricket trophy named after them. The Hagley Oval in Christchurch will bring together cricket and rugby players for the inaugural ‘Black Clash’ Twenty20 match on January 25.Squads

Team Rugby: Kieran Read (capt), Richie McCaw, Israel Dagg, Beauden Barrett, Jordie Barrett, Aaron Smith, Jason Spice, Ali Williams, Kendra Cocksedge, Kaylum Boshier, Ofisa Tunu’u (wk), David Hussey (international wildcard)
Team Cricket: Brendon McCullum (capt), Grant Elliott, Luke Ronchi (wk), Kyle Mills, Chris Harris, Nathan Astle, James Franklin, Hamish Marshall, Liz Perry

Team Rugby have signed up former Australia batsman David Hussey as the international wildcard.Lomu, who was a globally renowned rugby star, was New Zealand’s youngest ever All Black, when he made his debut at the age of 19. He died at the age of 40, following a heart attack. Crowe, the former New Zealand captain, and one of the country’s greatest batsman, lost a long battle to cancer in March 2016, aged 53.”It’s truly fitting that the names of these two national heroes have pride of place on what is a wonderful, iconic piece of Kiwi art,” David Higgins, the founder and director of the Duco Events Group, which is organising the event, said.”I’ve always believed that Martin and Jonah have not been fully recognised for the contribution they made to the country through their tremendous deeds on and off the sports field. Both Martin and Jonah were men whose achievements transcended the sports field. So to be able to honour them even in a small way by naming the T20 Black Clash trophy the Lomu-Crowe trophy just feels right.”The Lomu-Crowe trophy is designed after a Maori adze, featuring a finish blade made of greenstone. Created by the famed New Zealand artist Shane ‘Spud’ Dudley, the trophy was unveiled in Christchurch on Wednesday, along with player jerseys for the two teams.”It’s huge. Look at the trophy, it’s amazing, it’s beautiful,” Israel Dagg, the All Blacks and Crusaders outside back, said. “It symbolises New Zealand and, obviously, you’ve got two great, world renowned athletes in Lomu and Crowe. Those names will live on forever.”Dagg will be one of 12 players who are a part of Team Rugby. Dagg has had a tryst with cricket in the past, when in 2005, when he was 16, he was invited to bowl at the Australian nets. Dagg had reportedly clocked 143kmph, earning the endorsement of Brett Lee.”I’ll try and get it down as fast as I can,” he said. “Obviously, with rugby you do a lot more upper body weights. I’ll try and do 130, something like that. I live pretty close to [All Blacks captain Kieran] Reado, so I might knock on his door and go and have a net.”Team Rugby have an uphill battle against a Team Cricket that is full of former New Zealand stars, such as Grant Elliott, New Zealand’s hero in the 2015 World Cup semifinal and final, who sold the match’s competitive spirit. “Absolutely. Everything to lose, nothing to gain but our pride,” he said. “I think pride is the important thing. I’ve always seen games like this start off with a bit of a smile on the face, but then there’s always a pivotal moment and suddenly that completive spirit takes over.”Team Rugby will don the red and black colours of Canterbury, while Team Cricket will turn out in blue. Team Cricket haven’t yet picked a wildcard, who will be announced next week.

SUPERIOR, INTER AMPLIA A VANTAGEM NO MORUMBI

NOVO VACILO PERMITE TERCEIRO GOL DO INTERNACIONAL

Leicester want to sign "incredible" Man Utd talent Amad Diallo on loan

Leicester City are believed to be battling one of their Championship rivals for the loan signing of an "incredible" player in the January transfer window.

Leicester chasing Championship glory

The Foxes may have suffered the misery of being relegated from the Premier League last season, but they haven't felt sorry for themselves, instead making a hugely promising start to the 2023/24 campaign. Under new manager Enzo Maresca, Leicester sit comfortably in the top two of the Championship table with 20 matches played, and if they win their game in hand they will overtake current leaders Ipswich Town.

They are the favourites to gain automatic promotion back to the Premier League, with so many players in their squad top-flight talents who are arguably too good for this level, from Wilfred Ndidi to Jamie Vardy. Maresca will feel that some January signings will increase his side's chances of going up even more, however, and it looks as though they are keen on an exciting attacking star.

Leicester want to sign Amad Diallo

According to a fresh transfer report from Football Insider, Leicester are interested in signing Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo on loan in January, but face competition from another Championship side.

Amad Diallo

"Leicester City and Sunderland are ready to take Man United winger Amad Diallo on loan for the second half of the 2023-24 campaign, sources have told Football Insider. Football Insider revealed on Monday (11 December) that Erik ten Hag is keen to take a look at Diallo in action for his side in the coming weeks after he returned from a serious knee injury.

"But it is believed that if he cannot make an impression before the end of January, Man United will sanction another loan exit for the Ivory Coast international."

It is also stated that some Premier League clubs are "monitoring" Diallo's situation, so there could be a huge battle to snap him up next month. The 21-year-old could be a wonderful loan signing by Leicester, having impressed on a temporary basis for Sunderland last season, scoring 14 goals in 29 Championship starts, helping the Black Cats finish in the playoff places.

Leicester could sign "incredible" £4m Souttar upgrade

This “incredible” £4m gem could be the perfect player to replace Harry Souttar at Leicester City.

ByAdam Scully Dec 10, 2023

Predominantly an attacking midfielder, Diallo is very much at home in wide roles, and he could provide Maresca with an extra attacking spark at a time when legs could begin to tire in the second half of the season. His brilliance is summed up by Sunderland's Luke O'Nien, who said of him earlier this year:

"I said it the other day to someone, the day he came in, the standards he’s raised just in terms of what he does on the ball is incredible. [To Amad] So yeah, thank you, man! You’ve still got a job to do! But yeah he’s been incredible, we love him and I know the fans love him as well."

Diallo has shown that he can thrive in the Championship in the past, and assuming United allow him to leave on loan next month, snapping him up is a no-brainer for Leicester.

South Africa wary of resurgent Pakistan – Reeza Hendricks

South Africa are wary of a resurgent Pakistan team that cruised to a five-wicket win in the first of five one-day internationals in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.”We know Pakistan is a good one-day outfit,” opener Reeza Hendricks, who contributed 45 to an opening stand of 82 in the first ODI, said. “They’ve been performing really well over the years in one-day cricket, so we’re quite wary and know that they’re a good team. They proved it by beating us in P.E.”Hendricks’ opening partnership with Hashim Amla allowed South Africa to set a platform, but a sluggish track and a committed bowling effort meant the hosts were never able to substantially up the run rate. Hendricks struck at 67.16 during his knock, and after him neither Amla or Rassie van der Dussen were able to raise their strike rates as high as a run a ball. Although David Miller capped the innings with a 12-ball 16, South Africa’s 266 for 2 was not enough to challenge a Pakistan top order that took more risks but completed the chase with five balls to spare.”In our minds, we thought it would be a good score,” Hendricks said. “There were slower conditions in the day, and it did quicken up at night. In our minds, we thought we went about it the right way. The batters that were in the middle felt it was a good score.”We’ve had a good discussion around the PE game, what went wrong and what we can learn from. It’s been those discussions we’ve had, and a good training session today ahead of tomorrow’s game.”With the World Cup five months away, the tournament is providing increasing context to the one-day cricket being played in the interim and every member of South Africa’s squad will see the series against Pakistan as a chance to stake a claim. Rassie van der Dussen made an immediate impact on debut with his 93, but his performance did not come as a surprise to Hendricks, who has shared a dressing room with van der Dussen with the Lions franchise for several seasons.”I was quite proud to see him make his debut and contributing the way he has,” Hendricks said of van der Dussen. “Obviously disappointed that he couldn’t get to his three-figure mark, but at the end of the day he played really well to contribute as well as he did. I’ve played a couple of seasons now with him. I know his capabilities and seen him improve over the years. He showed what he’s about to deserve a spot in the team.”Hendricks admitted that a spot in the World Cup squad would be “a dream” and would mean “a hell of a lot” to him, but he insisted that his focus is much more short-term.”I’m not looking at it like that,” he said. “Yes, the World Cup is around the corner but we’ve got a series on hand now at the moment and this is an opportunity that we get as well. We take it as it comes. Personally, I’m taking it game by game, trying to contribute as well as I can to each game and every opportunity I get, and the rest will take care of itself. I’m not looking too far ahead, or looking who’s around me, because at the end of the day if I don’t get selected I know the player next to me and the guys that are going will do the job, and I back them 100 percent.”Aside from individual aspirations, the remaining nine ODIs scheduled for South Africa before the World Cup also provide an opportunity to fine-tune ‘Vision 2019’, the team’s blueprint for what they believe will bring success at the tournament.”We’re quite close,” Hendricks said. “I think we’re on the right track. We’ve had a good chat in how to go about it and how we’re playing, and as a unit we’re all buying into it. We’re doing good things. There are still a couple of months to try and get it right for the World Cup.”
