Wolves Keen On Signing 21 y/o "Absolute Star"

Wolverhampton Wanderers are now keen on signing Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle, in what could be a loan deal. However, they are set to face competition from Scottish champions Celtic, according to a recent report from The Sun.

What's the latest Wolves transfer news?

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi has recently penned an open letter to the fans, in which he detailed that it will be difficult for the club to make any major signings this summer, as a result of the limitations brought about by Financial Fair Play restrictions.

As such, there may not be many more arrivals through the door at Molineux this summer, and there is also concern over the future of manager Julen Lopetegui, with the Spaniard now considering his position, as a result of the club's transfer woes.

However, the Old Gold continue to be linked with reinforcements in the middle of the park, following the sales of Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves, and they are reportedly keen on signing Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

The Molineux outfit have had "contacts" over a move for the 29-year-old, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, but they have other options in mind to bolster their midfield, with Alex Scott being considered, but Bournemouth could hijack their move for the Bristol City ace.

Scott is not the only young midfielder that Wolves have their eye on, with The Sun now reporting they are keen on Doyle, who helped Sheffield United gain promotion to the Premier League last season.

However, the Old Gold may face stiff competition for the midfielder, as Celtic are also keen on bringing him in, and the Scottish champions' strong relationship with Manchester City could enable them to win the race for his signature.

If the 21-year-old were to complete a move to Molineux, he may not be a regular starter, which leaves the door open for a move to Celtic Park, where Champions League football is on offer next season, making the Hoops an attractive option.

How good is Tommy Doyle?

There is evidence the youngster could be ready to make the step-up to the Premier League, given the part he played in Sheffield United's promotion to the top-flight last term, making 33 appearances for the Blades, picking up three goals and four assists.

The Man City ace also weighed in with five goal contributions in 19 appearances on loan at Cardiff City during the 2021/22 season, and performed very well at youth level for the Citizens in the prior season, amassing 14 goal contributions in 18 Premier League 2 games.

Watford's Hamza Choudhury in action with Sheffield United'sTommyDoyle

Given Wolves' financial limitations, a loan move for a player of Doyle's calibre would make perfect sense, and there is every indication he could develop even further at Molineux, having been lauded by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, who said:

"Tommy Doyle is one of the biggest talents in Manchester City youth academy. An absolute star of English youth national teams from U-16 to U-19."

Scott should be the Old Gold's main target in midfield, as it would be far more beneficial to sign a player on a permanent deal, rather than on loan, but the former Sheffield United loanee could be a solid alternative option.

Jarvis sustains Lancashire's outside title hopes

Kyle Jarvis still shows flashes of world class form•Getty Images

But for the political situation in Zimbabwe, Kyle Jarvis might right now be established as one of the world’s leading seam bowlers. He had claimed two five-wicket hauls in his first eight Tests, after all, and aged just 24, should have had a long international career ahead of him.Alas, for international cricket at least, he tired of the poor pay and political wrangling inherent with Zimbabwe cricket in those years. Instead he threw-in his lot with Lancashire as a Kolpak registration. The possibility of qualifying for England was mentioned, too. While an England call-up looks unlikely – he will be 31 before he qualifies – rumours connecting him with a return to Zimbabwe have surfaced in recent times. Zimbabwe Cricket is now in better hands off the pitch and Heath Streak, the coach, has admitted the departure of Jarvis and Brendan Taylor (to Nottinghamshire) was a “massive loss.””I’m hoping Zimbabwe Cricket can entice them back into the fold,” he said. “Kyle has been one of the most consistent county bowlers for a number of years.”Certainly in this form Jarvis would be an asset to most teams. Bowling (in the afternoon, at least) a tight line and gaining just enough lateral movement to threaten both edges of the bat, he claimed his second successive six-wicket haul in Championship cricket and sustained Lancashire’s outside hopes of snatching the County Championship title. If that sounds unlikely – they went into this match 41 points behind Essex – it is worth remembering they play the leaders next week. A resounding victory in this game and that might narrow the gap considerably. That they are in a great position to push for a win here was largely due to Jarvis and the equally impressive Ryan McLaren, who again captained in place of Steven Croft, who has dropped himself in favour of Jos Buttler. After an underwhelming first couple of spells (his first nine wickeletless overs cost 38 runs) – he described them as “terrible” – from the James Anderson End, Jarvis switched to the Brian Statham End and almost immediately settled into a better rhythm. He claimed four wickets in 20 balls and six in the afternoon session as he exploited a slightly two-paced surface with remorseless accuracy and just enough seam movement to find the edge.Andy Umeed’s typically stubborn innings was ended when he tried to guide one to third man but was undone by extra bounce, before Tim Ambrose was caught down the leg side (the only fortunate dismissal in the haul) and Keith Barker was punished for trying to flick a straight one. Matt Lamb was bowled by one that nipped off the seam before Jarvis returned to clean-up the tail. Jarvis did not think it relevant, but 12 of the 13 wickets to fall went to deliveries bowled from the Statham End which seemed, from afar, to offer just a bit more seam assistance.Jonathan Trott makes a disconsolate exit•Getty Images

“I didn’t bowl well at all in the morning,” Jarvis admitted later. “I bowled terribly. I had no rhythm. There were some tough words at lunch. But then it came out really nicely.”When I came to England, I thought I was a swing bowler. But I’m not, really. My skill is to move the ball of the seam and, as my lines and my lengths improve, so my average is coming down. I can be a bit wayward when the ball swings.”While he did not deny he had been approached by Zimbabwe, his answers to questions on the subject may ease the minds of the Lancashire management. And, perhaps, diminish their enthusiasm (now confirmed by the club) for recruiting Steven Finn, who is out of contract at Middlesex at the end of the season, but likely to demand a hefty price-tag if he is to move.”It’s flattering to be linked with international cricket,” Jarvis said. “And it is tough being away from home and family.”But I’m contracted at Lancashire until the end of 2018 and playing for them is my only focus. I’m just thinking about the next game. I’d love to win the Championship with Lancashire. There’s no reason we can’t push for the title.”Qualifying for England has always been at the back of my mind. I came over to do that. But whether they’ll want a 31-year-old bowler I don’t know.”They may not. But with 29 first-class wickets at a cost of 19.41 apiece this season (and 148 at 28.03 since his Lancashire debut at the end of 2013) it is not impossible the club may consider him as an overseas player even if he did decide to return to Zimbabwe.Only a stand of 76 for the ninth-wicket between Olly Stone (who was preferred ahead of Boyd Rankin, who subsequently returned home due to illness) and Jeetan Patel – both of whom survived dropped catches – helped Warwickshire gain a single bonus point. That meant no respite for Ian Bell, in his first game since returning to the ranks, and no chance to build on their victory against Middlesex as Warwickshire seek to avoid relegation. There is some help for bowlers in this surface, but 200 may well prove to be 150 or so below par.Bell actually looked in decent touch in making 14 but, lured into a drive at one outside off stump, edged to Jos Buttler in the slips. How relevant might it be that Buttler found himself in the slips? It can his hopes of winning an Ashes tour place as Jonny Bairstow’s wicketkeeping substitute little good and surely suggests his only hope of selection is as a specialist batsman. But a man averaging 10.25 in the season – albeit it across a sample-size of just four innings at this stage – isn’t in much of a position to stake a claim as a batsman. Still, with five games to play and positions still up for grabs, he still has some time. So, perhaps, does Bell. Nobody has ever really claimed the middle-order place he vacated when he was dropped by England at the end of 2015 and it remains just about possible that, if he ended the season well, he could yet win a recall. Nobody should doubt his good intentions: failing in his dream job of captain of the club he has loved all his life has hurt deeply and he seems to remain a man coming to terms with his life after international cricket. He has not failed for a lack of effort. There are, though, some signs of hope for Warwickshire. The return of Stone, playing his first first-class match since May 2016 after sustaining a career-threatening injury, offers them a young bowler of sharp pace – he produced a fine, full ball to take Dane Vilas’ middle stump and looked the most hostile bowler on show despite the sluggish surface – while the introduction of batsmen Dominic Sibley and Adam Hose has replenished a squad that had grown a little stale for lack of turnover. It will, barring a miracle, come too late to save them from relegation but their success, and the club’s qualification for T20 Finals Day, suggests the first few bricks in the rebuilding operation have been laid.Haseeb Hameed was also unable to push his claim for Ashes selection when he edged one that may have left him a touch, while Alex Davies was unfortunate to receive a beauty that bounced and left him. With Stephen Parry surviving a torrid spell from Stone before stumps, Lancashire will resume on day two well-placed to establish a match-defining position.

Liverpool: Reds Table A Fourth Bid For Romeo Lavia

Liverpool have tabled yet another fresh bid for highly-rated young Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, having seen a £46m offer rejected, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

How much does Romeo Lavia cost?

The Reds' interest in the 19-year-old has been one of this summer's biggest transfer sagas, as they look to make further midfield signings ahead of the new Premier League season.

While Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have come in as exciting-looking additions, no other signings have been made, despite losing Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the same time.

Read the latest Liverpool transfer news HERE…

It is Lavia who is seemingly considered Liverpool's No.1 option to come in and replace Fabinho in the defence midfield role, however, and on Monday they saw a third offer worth £46m turned down by Southampton, as the Championship side continue to hold firm.

Saints are demanding somewhere more in the region of £50m for the Belgian's services, and it looks as though the Reds may have finally bid that amount, following a new update.

What's the latest on Romeo Lavia to Liverpool?

Writing on Twitter on Monday night, Jacobs claimed that a fourth bid for Lavia has now been made by Liverpool almost immediately after the third, as they wait to hear Southampton's latest response:

"Understand Liverpool have already made another improved offer for Romeo Lavia after Southampton rejected their last £46m bid."

This whole situation has become rather painful at this point, with Liverpool making a mountain out of a molehill, in terms of continually bidding below the asking price when it is clear that Southampton aren't going to budge. The Reds must either stump up the £50m needed to get Lavia, or walk away from the deal and look at bringing in a different option in the No.6 role.

For Liverpool to be heading into their Premier League away to Chelsea on Sunday with no recognised defensive midfielder in their squad is a fairly ludicrous situation to be in, and even if Lavia does arrive before that game, it seems highly unlikely that he will feature, considering how late the Reds have left it.

Should this latest bid be accepted, though, the Merseysiders would be acquiring the services of a hugely exciting young footballer with a very high ceiling – one who Pep Guardiola has described as "incredible" in the past, with journalist Jacob Tanswell hailing him as "ridiculous".

At 19, it would be unfair to expect too much from Lavia straight away, as he gets used to playing for such a massive club – another No.6 with a little more experience is needed, too, but it remains to be seen if that will happen – but he showed last season that he can excel in the Premier League, arguably outperforming every other Southampton player and doing his best to keep them in the top flight, prior to their relegation.

An average of 2.1 tackles per game across 29 league appearances highlights his off-the-ball quality, but he is also a class act in possession, proving to be good in tight spaces and receiving the ball on the half-turn, completing 86.4% of his passes in a struggling Saints team last term.

Lewis, Joseph denied by England's late DLS dash

A late ram-raid of a sixth-wicket partnership between Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali enabled England to overcome a sensational innings from Evin Lewis and a maiden five-wicket all by Alzarri Joseph to claim the one-day series

The Report by Andrew Miller27-Sep-2017England 258 for 5 (Roy 84, Moeen 48*, Joseph 5-56) beat West Indies 356 for 5 (Lewis 176*, Holder 77, Woakes 3-71) by six runs (DLS method)
Live scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsA late ram-raid of a sixth-wicket partnership between Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali enabled England to overcome a sensational innings from West Indies’ next big thing, Evin Lewis, and a maiden five-wicket haul from their thrusting speedster, Alzarri Joseph, to wrap up the one-day series with a game to spare in a rain-decided thriller at the Kia Oval.Set an improbable 357 to win, after Lewis’ astonishing innings of 176 from 130 balls had powered West Indies to their highest ODI total in this country, England were given a flying start by the returning Jason Roy, who made 82 from 66 balls, only for Joseph to rip out each of their first five wickets in the space of 9.4 overs. It was a misjudgement from Roy that clicked Joseph’s evening into gear. Moments after pasting a Joseph no-ball over long-on for his second six of the night, Roy attempted to run a boundary through third man but succeeded only in feathering a nick to the keeper. Two overs later, Bairstow fell in identical fashion to depart for 39 from 51, and when Joe Root toe-ended an attempted pull to give Shai Hope his third catch in a row, England had slumped to 157 for 3.Eoin Morgan, in need of some runs for his own peace of mind if nothing else, looked as busy as he has been in recent weeks in picking off three fours in a 17-ball 19. But then he climbed into a pull that seemed to be hurtling clean through fine leg for six, only for Kyle Hope, the substitute fielder, to cling onto a blinder, high and to his right just five metres the rope. And if that was good, then the identity of the next catcher arguably made Sam Billings’ departure even more spectator, as Chris Gayle defied his creaking hamstrings to stretch low to his right at a solitary slip, and complete for his young team-mate a memorable milestone. From an invidious position of 181 for 5, however, Moeen and Buttler paced their chase to near-perfection, reeling in a DLS par score that had at one stage been 37 runs in West Indies’ favour – first with measured accumulation and then with that familiar turn of timing and guile that characterises both men at their very best. We’ve seen plenty of the best of Moeen in recent times, and he was at it once again today, picking up where he left off at Bristol with another telling contribution of 48 not out from 25 balls. The first signs of a coup came in Ashley Nurse’s third and final over, a volley of six, four, six, each fiercely walloped back down the ground, and with Buttler dinking the angles and battering the drives, England’s charge was well and truly on.And, had England been able to call up the rain on cue, they could not have timed their chase any more perfectly, with Moeen drilling a pair of drives in Jerome Taylor’s final over – the second as the rain was already falling – to reach their par score of 252, and leave the field two runs later with a 3-0 series win all but mopped up.It was a cruel end to a valiant performance for West Indies, and made all the more cruel in light of the incident that brought a premature end to Lewis’ bombastic display. With 17 fours and seven sixes already to his name, he would surely have taken West Indies to even greater heights had he not inside-edged a Jake Ball yorker onto his right ankle and been forced to retire hurt with 22 balls remaining. X-rays subsequently revealed a hairline fracture and he will miss the final match at the Ageas Bowl on Friday. That injury, however, cannot detract from a truly memorable innings. Lewis, who has been spoken of in hushed tones since bursting on the scene, first in the Caribbean Premier League and more recently with a brilliant pair of T20 centuries against India, has, by and large, built his reputation on power rather than longevity. But, faced with a scoreline of 33 for 3 after Woakes had capitalised on some early life under hazy skies, he displayed another aspect of his batting character in a hugely responsible rebuilding effort. With Jason Mohammed alongside him, he set about adding 117 for the fourth wicket to reinflate his team’s prospects, but the fun really started when Liam Plunkett returned to the attack for the 40th over of the innings. West Indies, at that stage, were steadily placed on 212 for 4, but Lewis, who hitherto had barely played a single shot out of his comfort zone in amassing 109 from 105 balls with 14 fours, climbed into a steepling pull that just had the legs to plop over the head of Adil Rashid at backward square of his first six of the day.A miss is as good as a mile in such circumstances, and emboldened by the end result, Lewis planted his front foot to dump Plunkett’s next delivery straight down the ground for another six. A googly from Rashid’s next over might have ended the fun but Roy in the covers couldn’t cling on, and the upshot was another volley of six and four – a powerful strike over midwicket followed by a tickle through fine leg.Holder took his cue in the next over, from Moeen, thundering two long-levered blows straight down the ground, and thereafter it was tin-hat time for a packed Oval crowd, as the pair matched each other swing for swing in a gleeful rampage to the finish line.England’s bowlers might not agree, but West Indies’ onslaught was precisely the tonic that this match had needed, given that its build-up had been so comprehensively overshadowed by the aftermath of the last meeting of these two teams, in Bristol on Sunday. And it couldn’t have seemed further from the cards with Woakes tearing in from the Vauxhall End to claim 3 for 16 in his first 19 balls.Gayle, fresh from his 94 from 78 balls at Bristol, lasted just four deliveries before edging to second slip. Shai Hope was caught behind soon afterwards. And when Marlon Samuels’ dismal series continued – pinned lbw for 1 from seven balls to a Woakes delivery that would have trimmed his bails, the contest seemed as good as over. Instead, it turned into quite the sinecure for a series that has been so comprehensively overshadowed.

West Ham Could Sign £8m Sensation To Replace Scamacca

West Ham United are reportedly interested in AC Milan forward Divock Origi, as David Moyes looks to bring in reinforcements this summer.

The Irons must get to work quickly on replenishing their squad ahead of the new season, in the bid to avoid another relegation-threatened campaign.

With the financial boost of £105m from the sale of Declan Rice, Moyes must ensure to recruit smart and fast this window.

Could West Ham sign Divock Origi?

As reported by transfer expert Dean Jones, via GIVEMESPORT, the Hammers are eyeing a move for former Liverpool striker Origi.

Valued at €9m (£8m) by Football Transfers, the 28-year-old could be the perfect signing for Moyes to chase, as reinforced by Jones:

“Origi would be an option and West Ham have had interest in both him and Armando Broja for such a long time it feels like one of them eventually pulls on the shirt.

“Players at different ends of their career, it feels like, but Origi is still only 28 and if he could find consistency in terms of form and fitness I really think he would be a decent signing.”

How good is Divock Origi?

Hailed for his time at Liverpool for scoring some of the most crucial goals in the club’s history, the Belgian was a reliable call for backup at Anfield, as he took the passenger seat for the entirety of his time on Merseyside.

Snatched by AC Milan at the expiration of his contract with the Reds last summer, the move brought the forward’s eight-year association with the club to an end after arriving in the Premier League at 19 from Lille in 2014.

With a Champions League and Premier League medal under his belt, the 28-year-old could now face a reunion with the league in which he made his name, as Moyes and the Hammers eye a new striker.

Praised as being a “real handful” by scout Antonio Mango, the Belgian could be the perfect replacement for current forward Gianluca Scamacca, who according to Football Insider ‘won't play for West Ham again.'

divock-origi-ac-milan-transfer-gossip-leeds-united-farke-patrick-bamford

The Italian’s move last summer was highly anticipated after he netted 16 goals in Serie A for Sassuolo in the 2021/22 campaign.

Things, however, have not gone to plan for the 24-year-old in east London, making only 11 starts in the Premier League and scoring three times in claret and blue, with a return to Italy on the cards after one year in England.

With Scamacca’s departure pending, a swoop for Origi could be a smart move for Moyes, who could obtain a Premier League-proven forward with an incentive to get back to his scoring ways after a lacklustre season with AC Milan.

For Liverpool, the Belgian netted 41 goals in 175 appearances, where he was more than often brought on as a substitute as a reliable asset for one of the top teams in Europe.

Based on his numbers over the past year, the 28-year-old showed he could be a more lively option to the departing Iron’s forward, as the former Anfield ace averaged 2.21 progressive carries to the Italian’s 1.26 per 90, via FBref.

Despite the quality of Scamacca being undoubtable, a trade for a player proven in England could be the perfect switch for West Ham at this moment in time.

Fabrizio Romano Provides Update On Liverpool’s Pursuit Of £100m Gem

Fabrizio Romano has provided a big update in the Moises Caicedo saga involving Liverpool.

The Ecuadorian looks set to leave Brighton this summer

What is the latest Moises Caicedo transfer news?

The Caicedo saga took a shock turn on Thursday.

All window long, Chelsea have seemingly been leading the race for the midfielder, having seen multiple bids rejected throughout the window, with the most recent offer of £80m being rejected instantly by the south coast side, who are keen to keep one of their stars ahead of their first season in European football. Caicedo has informed the club of his desire to depart this summer, and has even missed training sessions in an attempt to force Brighton's hand, however the club have stood firm.

Liverpool have now made their move to try and bring the player to Anfield, however there are conflicting reports regarding the saga. According to Matt Law, the Merseyside club have submitted a bigger bid for Caicedo than the Blues have managed all window, presumably in response to the London sides £48m bid for Romeo Lavia, who has been the subject of Liverpool's transfer saga. On the other hand, Paul Joyce reports that Liverpool have not bid Caicedo, but instead have just made contact with the South Coast club for information on the situation as part of their "due diligence" in the transfer market, despite the Merseyside club believing that he will still join Chelsea.

Brighton & Hove Albion'sMoisesCaicedo

German giants Bayern Munich have also reportedly joined the race for the player, who is valued at £100m. However, with the club still pursuing a deal for Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane, it is hard to see the side managing two big money deals this window.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Liverpool have made contact and are preparing a verbal bid for the midfielder, with Brighton just wanting to sell to the highest bidder.

"In the morning, Liverpool made contact with Brighton, preparing an approach and a verbal bid for Moises Caicedo, so it’s true that Liverpool contacted Brighton and they wanted to enter into the race for Moises Caicedo. That’s the reality, trying to enter at the final stages because as I told you yesterday, Chelsea feel close to signing Caicedo but they still don’t have full agreement with Brighton. So, Liverpool wanted to enter and there was a call from Bayern, who wanted to be informed on the situation.

"On the player's side, the feeling from all the clubs is that Chelsea remain ahead in this story, we know that Chelsea have been working on this for a long time, but of course now for Brighton they are entering into a crucial moment, they have to make a decision, and Brighton’s intention is to sell the player to the biggest opportunity on the financial point of view, so the biggest bid is the one they want to accept, so let’s see what happens."

Would Caicedo be a good signing for Liverpool?

Moises Caicedo would be the final piece of Jurgen Klopp's midfield rebuild.

So far this summer, the Reds have sold both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Al Ettifaq and Al Ittihad respectively, whilst letting Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James MIlner all leave on free transfers. The side have moved to replace them, bringing in Dominik Szoboszlai from German club RB Leipzig by activating his £60m release clause, as well as adding Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for his release clause of £35m. However, the side still lacks a real defensive stalwart to partner Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pivot, and that is where the Ecuadorian shines.

Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The 21-year-old recorded an average match rating of 7.08 last season according to Sofascore, whilst also winning 2.7 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per 90. The midfielder is also an impressive player in build up, completing 89% of his passes and averaging 1.2 key passes per match. The idea of linking back up with former teammate Mac Allister is also an exciting prospect, with journalist Julien Laurens stating:

"The Mac Allister – Caicedo partnership is just so so good. They are exactly what Liverpool need so badly."

It will be a tough deal to pull off, but it could be the final piece of the puzzle for Liverpool in terms of rebuilding their midfield.

VAR Don’t Check Arsenal Handball In 2-1

Referee Michael Oliver was “let down” by the VAR team for Arsenal’s home game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, as the decision not to review Declan Rice’s potential handball could’ve cost the visitors a point.

What’s the latest on Arsenal and VAR?

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners played host to Steve Cooper’s Forest in Saturday’s early kickoff as both teams got their Premier League campaigns underway in an exciting and surprisingly even affair.

The home side took the lead in the 26th minute, following an exquisite piece of skill from Gabriel Martinelli that Eddie Nketiah latched onto before the Hale End graduate finished equally well into the far corner.

For as great as the opener was, Bukayo Saka blew everyone away with his first goal of the season just six minutes later when he curled one in with his left foot from outside the box, and at this point, it looked like it was going to be a long day for the visitors.

Read the latest Arsenal transfer news HERE…

However, an injury to new-boy Jurrien Timber early in the second half seemed to disrupt the home team, and as time went on the Garibaldi exerted more and more pressure and in the 78th minute, Willy Boly had a golden chance from a corner, only for Rice to get in the way.

However, on closer inspection, it becomes evident that the former West Ham United captain handles the ball as he is in the air. Still, VAR didn’t look at the incident due to his arm not being in an “unnatural position.”

Forest levelled the score just four minutes later but failed to add another before the final whistle was blown

Did Nottingham Forest deserve a penalty against Arsenal?

Looking at the footage of the incident, it’s hard not to feel for the Forest players and fans as it is quite clear that Rice gets his hand to the ball as he leans on Boly in the box.

With the decision to award a penalty to Luton Town in one of the following 3pm games for a similar action, it’s hard not to think that had VAR gone back to look at the incident, the East Midlands side would’ve been awarded a penalty.

The decision not to have a proper look at the potential handball certainly left Cooper bemused, with him saying after the game: “We’re really surprised the Declan Rice handball on Willy Boly wasn’t at least checked.

“It’ll be debated, some will say yes, some will say no but for us, especially because we’re away from home as well, we were quite surprised it wasn’t looked at so it’ll be interesting to see what VAR think about it. For me, they’ve let the referee down.”

It was a sentiment shared by former player turned TalkSport pundit Tony Cascarino, who argued: “There was certainly a handball incident with Declan Rice that could have gone either way!”

It’s a situation that’s made all the more painful and difficult to accept for the Tricky Trees as they were well and truly back in the games for significant periods of the second half, especially after reducing the deficit to just one goal.

The one positive Cooper can take from the game, however, is the team’s ability to stay with one of the league’s best teams even after falling behind, and if they can show that kind of grit and determination throughout the season, then they should be just fine and playing top-flight football for a third year running next season – even if the Gunners got away with one here.

Spurs: TalkSPORT reporter teases "X-factor" striker name

Tottenham Hotspur could turn to Inter Milan striker Lisandro Martinez as a potential replacement for Harry Kane if the latter is to depart Hotspur Way this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Is Harry Kane leaving Tottenham Hotspur and could Lisandro Martinez replace him?

According to Sky Sports, Kane expects to stay at Tottenham for another campaign if he is not sold to Bayern Munich before his side's Premier League opener against Brentford on August 13th.

The report states that Bayern Munich plan to improve on their £81.7 offer to Spurs for Kane and a meeting between hierarchies of both clubs has already been held to try and come to a resolution. German giants Bayern Munich plan to offer the England international a five-year contract at the Allianz Arena.

TEAMtalk understand that Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are also keen on Kane and are mulling over a potential world record bid to land the 30-year-old, which could be in the region of £200 million.

In regard to Martinez, InterLive revealed earlier this year that the Argentina international could emerge as a serious candidate to replace Kane in north London, though he could cost €120 million (£103.6 million) to acquire.

Last term, the £182k-a-week ace, who has an "X-factor", was in fine form for Inter Milan, registering 28 goals ad 11 assists across 57 appearances in all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

Cited by talkSPORT, football legend Lionel Messi has heaped heavy praise on his international teammate Martinez in the past, stating in an interview: "He's spectacular. “He has impressive qualities. You could tell he was going to be a great player and he is showing that. "He's very strong, really good one on one, scores a lot of goals and in the area he fights with anyone, holds it up, he can turn, scrap to win it all on his own."

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Crook has namechecked Martinez alongside a few other elite names around Europe that could replace Kane at Tottenham; however, he believes it may be a difficult sell to any high-profile forward due to Spurs' lack of Champions League involvement.

Crook stated: "Kylian Mbappe was just fanciful and extreme. I think with Dusan Vlahovic if Fabio Paratici is still involved and I think he is in some capacity, could be a possibility.

"Maybe someone like Lautaro Martínez at Inter Milan, although he suggested that he would be quite happy to stay for another season.

"They can't afford Victor Osimhen and I wouldn't have thought he'd want to come and join a non-Champions League team, which is going to be an issue for a few of their targets."

Who else could potentially replace Harry Kane at Tottenham Hotspur?

Rosario Central striker Alejo Veliz could be on his way to Tottenham this summer according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who has recently stated on Twitter X: "Alejo Veliz has agreed personal terms with Tottenham, player wants to join — long term contract in place. Negotiations are underway between clubs — Rosario Central ask to keep Véliz on loan for at least six months."

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic could indeed emerge as an option for Spurs and would be available due to his current employers being mired in financial difficulty, according to Football Insider.

Tottenham are reportedly 'considering' Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson as an alternative to Kane, though he would cost in the region of £50 million, as per The Daily Mail.

Brazilian striker Pedro, is another name being contemplated by Spurs in the event that Kane heads to Bayern Munich or elsewhere between now and the close of play, as per The Independent.
